Get ready to feast your eyes on stunning sights that will leave you in awe. But to experience this, you’ll have to embark on a long journey – a four-hour one to be exact. The Helenbar Lookout Trail is not a walk in the park, well… technically it is but it’s not an easy feat. It leads past massive rocks and to a gorgeous lookout.

You’ll find this gem located within Mississagi Provincial Park, home to rugged landscapes of “ancient hills and clear lakes located west of Sudbury,” per Ontario Parks.

Here you can enjoy backcountry camping, lakes for canoeing or kayaking and a spectacular 130m high Helenbar Trail Lookout.

Out of the seven hiking trails available, the Helenbar Lookout trail is not one to miss.

It’s about 7 km long and will take about four hours to complete. So if you’re used to trails, this is a great experience.

According to Ontario Parks, the trail leads up a gradually sloping ridge, and passes right by a huge boulder which is called an “erratic”. It was apparently dropped in place ten thousand years ago by melting glacial ice.

The trail then leads to a stunning lookout spot that sits atop a north facing ridge.

Here you can enjoy stunning views across Helenbar Lake far below and the Boland River Valley in the distance.

Snag your pics! And once you’re ready, you can head down the slope again and pass through a “stand of huge old growth eastern hemlock” before rejoining the Semiwite Lake Trail.

Per Ontario Parks, the focal points of this trail also include a white sand beach on Semiwite Lake. You’ll find this where the Helenbar and Semiwite Lake Trails meet.

It’s a lovely experience but you need to be fully ready to embark on this long journey.

At least the views are worth it!
