This park in Ontario has islands with sandy beaches for swimming

Summer is still going strong, and that means many more days of adventure to look forward to! If island hopping and beach swimming sounds like the perfect summer day trip to you, then you have to check out Thousand Islands National Park.

This national park is full of picturesque granite islands and sparkling aqua-blue water.

You can boat from island to island while enjoying the rich biodiversity, learning about the Indigenous heritage, and soaking up the scenic views from wooded trails and rocky lookouts.

On hot summer days, these islands are a refreshing place to cool off.

While there are many docks and rocks for swimming throughout the park, there are also a couple of spots where you can lay out in the sand.

There are two sandy beaches at Thousand Islands National Park — one is on Central Grenadier Island and the other is on Thwartway Island, according to Parks Canada.

Grenadier Island is actually a large island with all kinds of wildlife sightings, and expansive nature, as well as farms, a golf course, and a beautiful lighthouse, says Thousand Islands Life.

The beach is surrounded by shaded picnic spots and the sunsets here are nothing short of spectacular.

Thwartway Island is much more removed and quiet, offering visitors a sense of privacy as they enjoy the land and spend time on the beach.

There are plenty of campsites throughout this national park, so you can turn your adventure into an overnight getaway.

And if you’re ready for a pit stop for some lunch, Mallorytown Landing has barbecues, picnic shelters, and trails overlooking the glistening water.

Talk about the perfect summer getaway!
