This video might explain why Drake has pulled out of the Grammys

Yesterday, news broke that the rap superstar Drake had withdrawn his two Grammy nominations this year, without any clear indication of why. The rapper was up for two Grammys this year- best rap album (Certified Lover Boy) and best rap performance (Way 2 Sexy).

While no official comment has been made by Drake, his 2019 acceptance speech for Best Rap Song offers some insight into the Canadian star’s thoughts. After all, he was cut off for criticizing, you know, the whole dang thing…

In the video, Drake says that the music industry is an ‘opinion-based sport’ where sometimes ‘it’s up to people that might not understand’ what musicians are trying to say. He then goes on to say that if people are singing your songs, or attending your show, then you’ve already won. Well, he might have said more, but his speech was cut short.

As a fun bonus, Drake was also upset at the awards last year, when fellow Canadian The Weeknd was snubbed from multiple nominations. And while The Weeknd is up for 3 awards this year, none of them are related to his own projects.

So, if you were wondering why Drake has pulled out of the Grammy awards this year, then this is probably the best explanation. Hey, we’re still blasting his album when the feeling’s right, so more power to him.
