When Home & Away opened its doors in Calgary’s Victoria Park neighbourhood, it was clear that the sports-lovin’ vibes from its previous 17th Avenue location were sticking around. It was also clear that the new spot was a little more sophisticated and trendy, without losing its familiar feel.

Fast forward two years and the “home away from the ‘Dome” has become one of Calgary’s hottest bars. But, it’s not the only establishment calling that plot of 1st Street SW home.

On the main and upper levels, guests can explore Home & Away’s mix of sports bar and lounge vibes, as perfect for catching the Flames game as it is for a date night or corporate party.

A tasty menu filled with classic bar fare is elevated by simple touches, and Home & Away’s daily specials are topped off by some incredible weekend deals.

We’re talking $20 bottles of bubbles, $6 shafts and $6 caesars on Saturdays, and an all-day happy hour on Sunday that includes $4 tequila and Jamesons along with $20 pitchers of Coors that’ll keep you going late into the night.

Speaking of late nights, while Home & Away is bumping into the early morning most of the week, Shuffle Club, which sits in the downstairs space, only rocks on the weekends.

The historical downstairs space was once home to The Depression, a 1960s coffee house that became the earliest stage for Canadian music legend Joni Mitchell. Yes, the Joni Mitchell. And, Shuffle Club was Calgary’s first-ever gay bar, Club Carousel. Yup, this place is packed top to bottom with some of the city’s finest history.

Now, Shuffle Club has reinvigorated the classic spot with a fresh design, a dancefloor, and shuffleboards for folks to play their night away.

Open Friday and Saturday nights from 8 pm ‘til late, Shuffle Club is one of Calgary’s few intimate club settings perfect for group parties and special occasions. The DJs start spinning at 10 pm, so be sure to have your dancin’ shoes at the ready.
