Vancouver’s Granville Pedestrian Zone is turning into an open-air disco before summer ends

It looks like a bit of that World Cup magic is making its way back to Granville Street before summer’s end. Public Disco is popping up for three days of unforgettable street party energy, with DJs spinning across three stages and plenty of fun activities for all ages to enjoy. If you’ve been missing the vibes of Vancouver’s time as a FIFA World Cup host city, now is your chance to extend them a little longer.

How long will the Granville Pedestrian Zone remain?

There’s no getting around it; the now iconic pedestrian zone was extended through Sept. 6, but the energy just hasn’t been the same since the World Cup ended and the crowds dissipated. But this series of disco parties is here to change all of that.

Earlier this summer, the Vancouver City Council voted to extend the car-free fun, and the Province extended liquor and patio licenses through Labour Day, Sept. 7. So the outdoor rallying, singing, dancing, eating, and drinking is still on.

We’re all about hanging onto summer for as long as we can!

When are the disco parties?

Public Disco will bring the party back to Granville Street on Aug. 12, Aug. 18, and Sept. 2 from 4 to 9 p.m., with the fun spanning the 700, 900, and 1100 blocks of Granville.

While there aren’t many programming details available yet, in addition to DJs and street dancing, there will be interactive activities, a kids’ zone, outdoor chess, and dance groups performing onstage.

So mark your calendars, and stay tuned for more info as it comes!

Are you ready for the ultimate summer sendoff?
