This tranquil Japanese Garden in Alberta is holding a must-see light festival this month

Winter nights in Alberta are cold and dark, but one of the province’s most unique attractions hopes to brighten those chilly evenings with an unreal display of magic and friendship. This month, don’t miss the Winter Light Festival at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens in Lethbridge.

From now until Saturday, January 30th, Albertans can stroll through the serene grounds of North America’s most ‘worth it’ places to see as awarded by their peers at the 2019 Garden Tourism Conference.

Though you won’t see the impressive freshly cut grass or any of their beautiful flowers in full bloom, you will see thousands of colourful bulbs above and alongside the pathways and ponds; You’ll also get to ogle unreal ice sculptures throughout and might learn a thing or two about Japanese customs and traditions.

Now, unlike the years before it, the gardens won’t be as ‘lively’ due to COVID restrictions, but there will be plenty of opportunities to take photos, enjoy a hot chocolate and really take in the sights and sounds of Nikka Yuko after dark.

In addition to this, tickets will also be timed to ensure social distancing and must be purchased ahead of your arrival, but can be done without a problem here.
