These last few weeks have been unbearably spicy and we’re all looking for somewhere to beat the heat. Luckily, in Alberta, when it comes to lakes, rivers and swimming holes we’re spoiled for choice, but there’s one summertime oasis that really sets itself apart from others. Located in Red Deer, Discovery Canyon is a seasonal-must visit this year and the next – here’s why!

A local favourite, DC recently reopened to the public and honestly, there couldn’t have been a better time to do so.

With temperatures well into the 30s, Central Albertans can now escape to their beach, the wading pools and a fast-moving, not-so-lazy-river aboard a tube… the best part? Because the park is fed naturally by the Red Deer River, admission is totally FREE and all you’ll have to pay for are your rentals (which are only $6) and snacks.

Hoping to make a full day or weekend of it? Discovery Canyon also has a golf course, parks, green spaces and a restaurant – sadly though, you’ll have to leave your furry friends at home as dogs are not allowed in the park.

Still interested? Well, of course, you are!

For more information or to book a tee time, check out their website below and start planning your perfect summer day.

Trust us, you won’t regret it! Enjoy!
