This Calgary shared kitchen grew 2.5x in size & so did its goal to grow the local food economy

Calgary, there’s something amazing happening in the city and we are excited to share it with you. It’s common knowledge that local food businesses often struggle for sustenance. And lack of professional working space is one of the biggest woes of these entrepreneurs. Well, they can now access the best of working space, professional-grade equipment and community support with Culinary Coworking, a shared commercial kitchen. The kitchen recently grew 2.5 fold in size and so did its mission to provide more opportunities to the city’s culinary talent.

For the uninitiated, a shared commercial kitchen, as the name suggests, is a professional kitchen space where several food producers come together to craft their gastronomical delights. And living true to its motto, Culinary Coworking has provided a cost-effective, low-risk and full-service kitchen space to Calgary’s local food businesses. In addition, the community also supports new entrepreneurs in overcoming the numerous other hurdles in their route to growth.

Started by father-son duo Chef Herbert Obrecht (a Master Chef for 35 years) and Andrew Obrecht, the chef-designed kitchen grew from a decent 3900 sqft to a humongous 10,700 sq ft. With a total of 20 zones now, the kitchen can accommodate more local brands.

The kitchen expansion sure came at a great time given that local entrepreneurs need more support in the post-pandemic economy. Also, many new brands have cropped up as people had to lean into their entrepreneurial side after facing career hiccups.

Chefs, bakers, and other food producers, if you want to become a part of this amazing community, check out Culinary Coworking’s website to get all the details. Others, head over to their gram and show them some love for building such a wonderful community and giving local talent the tools and support they need.
