This weekend is full of laughs, with a handful of comedy and improv shows to check out in addition to your regular-scheduled programming (rain, incredible local arts, and sports events). From this year’s rugby sevens tournament to a celebration of Indigenous contemporary dance, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this weekend (February 21-23).
Matriarchs Uprising is a celebration of contemporary dance led by Indigenous women artists, offering four live performances from now until Saturday, Feb. 22. As well, visitors can check out artist-led conversations, masterclasses, and community workshops.
The remaining two shows are “Gorgeous Tongue” by Lara Kramer on Friday, Feb. 21 and TOA III by Bella Waru on Saturday, Saturday, Feb. 22 – both at the Scotiabank Dance Centre.

This year’s rugby sevens tournament is on this weekend, so get ready to dress up in your finest costumes and cheer on the athletes! With both men’s and women’s events scheduled throughout the weekend, the major tournament is one of Vancouver’s biggest sports events of the year, so don’t miss out!

Iranian pop singer Ebi (Ebrahim Hamedi) has been performing for decades, starting his career in Tehran and Karaj alongside his band “Black Cats,” then moving to L.A. in 1977 just two years before the 1979 revolution in Iran. In L.A., he continued his solo musical career in exile, now known for songs like “Goraz,” “Pichak,” and “Gheseh Eshgh.”
He’ll be taking the stage at Rogers Arena on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025.

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Fest is back from Friday, Feb. 21 to March 4, 2025, with 20 in-person movie screenings and 60 incredible films showcasing thought-provoking stories about outdoor activities like snowsports, mountain climbing, biking, and much more.
The festival will also spotlight some of the world’s leading artists and athletes at a variety of in-person workshops.

The Improv Centre on Granville Island has a new show called “Single, Not Single” that’s on every Friday and Saturday until Feb. 28, perfect for date night or a fun end-of-week treat regardless of who you’re with.

The Arts Club Theatre presents one of NYC’s top comedians: Emma Willmann, who has been featured everywhere from The Late Show with Stephan Colbert to Netflix. A night of laughs is guaranteed here!

Here’s a fun one for Sunday night out vibes. The Flamingo Room on Commercial is hosting a pop-up for one night only featuring two of Vancouver’s top bar talents: Kabir Sehgal – Winner of our Daiquiri competition and now Creative Director at Zarak, and Liam Hatton – Bartender at Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions. Together, they’ll showcase eight specialty cocktails.
