With the summer again looking a bit different than it did in the before-times, the city is hopefully going to bring back the BYOB plazas and allow public drinking in Vancouver. The city is preparing to vote on allowing booze at four Vancouver spots.
The proposed locations are at 800 Robson St, Cambie St and 17th Ave, Fraser St and 27th Ave and 4th Ave and Maple Street. All some stellar locations for a few brews or a glass or two of wine in the sun.
The only spot that is sticking around from last year’s program is the one on Cambie Street. Last year also saw a very popular public drinking plaza at the Vancouver Art Gallery, but that location isn’t included this time around.

Once they’re operational, you’ll be able to legally drink at them between the hours of 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Perfect for a boozy brunch or an evening chill after dinner. Can you tell we’re excited for them?
The program, which is still a pilot run, will last from May 31 to October 11, 2021. If it gets the go-ahead, the pilot program will be partnering with local restaurant Say Mercy! to offer some dining options for folks taking advantage of the plazas.
Of course, public drinking coming back to Vancouver is all dependent on city council’s vote on Tuesday, May 18th. But given it was a thing last year, we got some high hopes of it happening again.
