We always knew Ontario was big on breaking records, but this Guinness title is definitely out-of-the-box. Did you know Ontario is home to the record holder for the smallest chapel in the world? Now you do! The spot is called the Living Water Wayside Chapel and it’s located in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

This adorable little building was built back in 1964. Since we know you’re all wondering, it measures in at about 78 square feet of floor space. Or, for us Canadians, 7.25 metres (4 metres by 1.8 metres). To give you a little frame of reference, the average studio apartment in Canada in 2019 was about 450 square feet. So this place is seriously tiny.

If you’d like to take a look at it for yourself, you are in luck. They’re currently hosting socially distant, private tours whenever the spot is not in service. They’re open to visitors 24-hours a day, as long as you wear a mask and don’t crowd too many people in at once. You can even sign their guest logbook that keeps track of all the visitors this place draws in from all over the world.

So next time you find yourself in the Niagara Region, be sure to check out the World’s Smallest Chapel. The adorable little spot makes for a great quick stop on any touristy visit.
