The ‘World’s Most Unusual Vending Machine’ pops up in Portland this weekend

Atlas Obscura is bringing something unusual to Portland, OR. To celebrate the launch of their book Gastro Obscura: A Food Adventurer’s Guide, they built the World’s Most Unusual Vending Machine. So grab your keys and let’s get into some details as we make the 3-hour drive.

Folks sampling the machine’s goodies will get to taste a curated selection of unique foods and beverages. From taste bud-bending miracle berries to color-changing edible flowers, they’ve compiled a selection of curious items from around the world into one simple vending machine. And while it’s touring the country, Portland is as close to Seattle as the machine is getting.

The vending machine is making its debut on Saturday, November 13th at the Portland Art Museum’s sculpture garden. And if you choose to attend the main event you’ll also be able to partake in a meet & greet with co-author Cecily Wong from 2-5 pm. Additionally, you can eat from tasting stations featuring local items like oysters, wagashi, fermented goods, and even hard cider. To make things even more unique you’ll be able to tune into a special fruit and vegetable synth performance.
