Toronto’s huge new neighbourhood block near King West is starting to come to life

A new destination for living, working, dining and shopping called The Well is taking shape in the downtown core and it’s opening sooner than you think. The Well will span across 8 acres along the western side of Spadina Avenue from Wellington to Front, one of the busiest parts of the city.

The Well will have over 1 million sq ft of office space, starting with a 38-floor landmark tower with massive floor-to-ceiling windows, shower facilities, a rooftop terrace, and more.

Rob Armstrong, who oversees the office developments at The Well, told Curiocity in an interview that the building is almost complete now. The tenants will begin to move in this summer and throughout 2022 and according to Retail Insider, Shopify has already snapped up space at the new tower.

As for living space, The Well will have six residential towers with over 1,700 suites total, which will be a mix of luxury condos and premium rentals surrounded by green space and a public promenade. The latest development, called FourFifty The Well, will have over 46 floors and nearly 600 luxury units.

The most exciting part, though, is all of the restaurants, stores, and entertainment centres coming to The Well.

In addition to a 22,000 sq ft event venue, it’ll also be home to a dining destination called the Wellington Market, offering artisan fare, casual dining, local produce, and even entertainment like concerts and comedy shows.

There will also be over 420,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor shopping across four levels with new flagship stores, pop-up shops, and popular brands in fashion, beauty, fitness, health, home decor, and more.

The retail centre will be built out of beams, brick and steel, with a “landmark glass canopy” for shelter and natural light.

Armstrong told Curiocity that while the retail spaces likely won’t be occupied until early 2023, some of the retailers “might be in business by the end of the year.” Retail Insider reports that The Well will fully open to the public in spring 2023.
