Word on the street is that The Weeknd just snapped up one of the biggest real estate deals of the year in Los Angeles and from the looks of this place, we’d believe it. According to the Wall Street Journal, the star bought the Bel Air home from Dutch actor turned media mogul Reinout Oerlemans and his wife Danielle in an off-market deal.
The outlet says that The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, had his sights set on this luxurious 33,000-square-foot property even before they agreed to sell it to him. The home has nine bedrooms, an infinity pool with a waterfall, and every other amenity you could imagine, plus a music studio, of course.
The Oerlemans made a killing on this deal, too. According to The Dirt, the couple purchased the house for $21.4 million back in 2015. They made significant upgrades to the place, which Danielle showcased on Instagram.

They transformed the home to give it a modern and industrial-style look, complete with a black fireplace and copper cabinetry in the kitchen with handles made from leather belts, reports WSJ.
The Weeknd’s new home seems even more incredible when you compare it to the house he lived in as a teenager in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood, which inspired his House of Balloons album.
The house at 65 Spencer Ave is just a couple of blocks from King St W and Dufferin St and it’s just like any other brown brick home you’d see in the residential areas of downtown Toronto. It’s where he and his friends used to throw rowdy parties, which they tried to make festive with balloons. “We’d throw these sh*tty parties and have girls over, and we’d try to make it celebratory, so we’d have balloons,” he said to Rolling Stone.
The Weekend will be back in his home city a few times over the coming months to perform at Scotiabank Arena. We wonder if he’ll pay a visit to his former stomping grounds just to reflect on how far he’s come.
