One of Vancouver’s most well-known bars has closed indefinitely

Here’s something that’s going to throw a wrench in more than a few party animals’ plans. Yesterday, The Roxy, a longtime Granville Street icon, announced that it would be closed for the foreseeable future. Here’s why it happened.

Turns out, the explanation for the closure is a little less scandalous than some might expect. According to an Instagram post, The Roxy suffered ‘external structural damage’ that was caused by neighbouring construction. Until the repairs are complete, it will be closed to the public.

Since the damage is so fresh, there’s currently no word about what the reopening timeline is. With any luck, we’re hoping they’ll be back for the summer, so we can once again head down there for a night of country music, double-highballs, and great people watching. Maybe a little line dancing if we manage to get lucky.

In the meanwhile, we’re just going to put on some Johnny Cash and weep a little bit about the temporary loss. Maybe with a just-cold-enough Budweiser in our hands.

But, we’ll keep you updated once an reopening date has been revealed. After all, The Roxy is a Vancouver institution, and its closure is definitely going to make some waves.
