In another blow to Vancouver’s summer event schedule, the PNE announced early Wednesday that the 2021 PNE Fair has been cancelled. Oh, boy.
As you probably remember, the PNE Fair was cancelled due to the pandemic last year, and despite their best efforts, a cancellation was ultimately unavoidable this year. In a news release, PNE spokesperson Laura Ballance says “…it is now clear that the number of guests required to make an in-person Fair financially viable will not be allowed under anticipated Public Health Orders this summer.”

Along with the lost revenue from the 15-day fair, the PNE is also one of the largest employers for young people not only in the region, but the entire province. The PNE Fair is aiming to work with the province to see what kind of events may be allowed this year, so things like drive-thru midways or distanced food events aren’t off the table just yet.
Recently, the PNE Playland announced that it would push its opening past the province’s current ‘circuit-breaker’ shutdown, which is set to end after the May long weekend. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that day comes without a hitch, because a summer without the PNE at all just doesn’t seem like a Vancouver summer.
