The Calgary Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (June 2)

Welcome to your weekly Calgary group chat, where we break down everything happening around the city right now. From current updates to new things popping up, here’s what’s been going on in the city this week.

What’s new, Calgary?

Rain, rain, go away

Well, we’ve definitely seen our fair share of rain the past few days! Although a flood warning has been issued for parts of Calgary, things are finally starting to look up with sunnier days ahead. Temperatures on Wednesday, June 3, are expected to reach a high of 17 degrees Celsius, which should feel way better.

Just make sure to stay river-safe and avoid any low-lying areas while water levels are still being monitored.

The Cheesecake Café just released a Kraft Dinner Mac and Cheesecake

The Cheesecake Café has just introduced something that will make you do a double-take: a Kraft Dinner Mac and Cheesecake.

Yes, you heard that right.

It’s exactly what it sounds like — Kraft Dinner powder blended into a cheesecake. Definitely the kind of item that sounds like a joke at first. So whether you see it as comfort-food nostalgia or something you’re not quite ready for, it’s one of those moments that get people talking.

Love it or question it, it’s hard to ignore.

The Calgary Stampede countdown is officially on

The countdown to the Calgary Stampede is officially on, and things across the city are already starting to feel a little more exciting. From the midway food announcements to all of the shopping events happening around the city, you can tell the 10 days of rodeo, concerts, and late nights are just around the corner.

Stay tuned for all our upcoming Stampede updates as we get closer to the big week.

A 1,000-pound butter sculpture is being built in the city

Some cities are known for skyscrapers. Calgary is now also about to become known for a 1,000-pound butter sculpture.

Yes, butter. A literal giant block of it, turned into art and headed to the Contemporary Calgary under the title Churn, Earn, Burn, and then Return.

It’s meant to make people think about food consumption, and it’s definitely one of those things you’ll have to see in person to wrap your head around it fully.

Warehouse deals worth showing up for

Calgary is getting not one, but two major warehouse sales this June at the BMO Centre.

From June 18 to June 21, the Sleep Country and Endy Warehouse sale will offer up to 65 percent off mattresses and bedding, while the ZWILLING Factory Direct Sale happening at the same time will feature discounted cookware.

Both running side by side, it’s an easy stop for anyone looking to score a few deals.

Time to dust off your swimsuits

Pool season in Calgary is returning, with most outdoor pools reopening on Monday, June 8, and a select few reopening on Saturday, June 13. So if you’ve been dreaming of hot summer days spent lounging by the pool, know they’re not far away.

And that’s your Calgary group chat for the week. There is quite a lot happening around the city right now, and we’re totally here for it. Between the new food drops, warehouse sales, and summer plans starting to roll in, the city is not slowing down anytime soon.

See you next week, Calgary.
