This Edmonton store and cafe is heaven for all things Pokemon

Sure, we choose Pikachu, but where do we choose him? At the Swirl Cafe, that’s where! This new Edmonton spot only opened in the summer, but has quickly become a must-visit option for fans of the iconic trading card game and series.

Jumping on the resurgence of Pokémon, Swirl Cafe and Games offers enthusiasts and early fans alike to enjoy a space almost purpose-built for them. We’re talking weekly Pokémon leagues (bring your best deck), rare releases for new packs and cards, and even some ‘Challenge Tournaments’ for those who really know what they’re doing, beyond making up the rules as they go along (how we played most of the time).

It can be a casual hangout as well, since they’ve got a cafe in there for a little caffeine boost before the game, and ice cream to treat yourself after a win. Or console yourself after a devastating loss, either works. Regardless, it’s clear that they’re trying to become the place to be for Pokémon fans in the city.

For those who aren’t, uh, super down for the Pokémon side, we should let you know that they’ve also got a board game library, for a little break for you and your friends between matches.

While we don’t know if we’d rather buy a deck or try and dig through or parent’s attic to sell our old cards, we’re certainly intrigued by the concept!
