This North Cascades campsite is only accessible by boat & getting there is half the adventure

If you have a boat, you have so much more access to Washington’s nature. While many people may think of boating in the western part of the state, there are plenty of places to go as you move further east. One of the most notable boating areas is Lake Chelan. If you’re ready for an adventure it’s time to fire up your motor and check out Stehekin.

Stehekin is located at the northernmost tip of Lake Chelan. It is boat access only, and is comprised of a small community as well as several campsites. While the easily accessible campsites are great, perhaps the best to check out is Weaver Point, a campsite only accessible by boat, located just a short ride from Stehekin’s public dock.

Keep in mind, if you plan to stay at Lakeview, Purple Point, or Harlequin campgrounds, advance reservations are required.

According to campers on the dyrt, Weaver Point has drinking water, pit toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. What more could you need?

If you check out a map, it also happens to be a short boat ride from The Painted Rocks, a Native American pictograph.

So whether you’re looking to enjoy a waterfront campground, get out on the lake, or check out some ancient history, Stehekin and Weaver Point are a great option.

What’s more, according to the National Park Service “Lakeside camps do not require a reservation or backcountry permit” However, “private boaters will need to obtain a Federal Dock permit if using one of the docks during the peak season.” So grab your boat, grab your permit, and get on over to Lake Chelan.
