Snowfall to hit the GTA this weekend followed by gorgeous spring weather

If the recent warm weather in Toronto had you feeling optimistic about an early spring, you may not want to pack away your snow boots just yet. A brief but intense snow storm will sweep across the GTA this weekend, followed by a nice stretch of warm temperatures.

Winter conditions will return across Ontario starting on Friday, according to The Weather Network (TWN).

Light flurries will become heavy snowfall come Friday night, with accumulations of up to 6 cm in the GTA by Saturday and up to 15 cm in other parts of the province.

“Along with the snow, strong winds will develop through Saturday afternoon, creating potential whiteout conditions, reduced visibility and difficult travel through that time,” reports TWN.

Thankfully, the snow will likely melt pretty quickly. According to TWN’s 14-day forecast for Torontoo, a high of 8 C and sunshine are expected on Monday, March 14th.

By Thursday the 17th, temperatures will climb to 14 C, followed by 11 C on Saturday and 9 C on Sunday the 20th, which is also the first official day of spring.

The following week will bring some mild weather to the city too, with highs of 7 C from Monday, March 21st to Wednesday the 23rd.

TWN’s recent spring forecast said that Ontario can look forward to some very early and very warm spring weather this season. However, residents will have their patience tested with some “significant setbacks” and above-average precipitation.

Meteorologists predict this spring to be “a case of two steps forward and one step back,” with many bouts of winter-like weather to come before spring hits its stride.

In short, get ready for a wild ride this spring, Toronto!
