Smiths Falls transforms into a winter wonderland once snow blankets the town. It is so wonderful that it becomes a must-visit destination during the holidays, welcoming all with festive activities like sleigh rides and late night shopping.
According to the town, it is located right in the heart of the Rideau Canal, along Ontario’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s a short drive away from Ottawa, and about three and a half away from Toronto.
It’s an all-season experience but it truly comes alive in the winter.
For the month of December, Smiths Falls has turned up the jolly in holly jolly Christmas celebrations with sparkling lights that line up its downtown core and of course, upcoming festivities.
Mark your calendars for Dec. 14, 2024, as the town will host Sleigh the Holidays & The Santa Claus Parade.
Festivities begin at noon, and last until 3 p.m., but make sure to stick around in the evening for the parade.
Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides and see real-life reindeer – straight from the North Pole.
There’s a hot chocolate bar at Davidson’s Courtyard, too.
And the best part is that event activities will be free of charge!
This is the perfect excuse to not only visit and support local, but also immerse yourself in the joys of the holiday season.
Can’t make the festivities? No worries! There’s still lots to do in the town for the holidays like late-night shopping.
On Dec. 12 and 19, downtown businesses will stay open a little later than usual to give you some extra time to shop, a great way to browse for a unique gift for your loved ones.
Make the most of the holidays and explore our wonderful province.
