MacGregor Point Provincial Park sure knows how to make the winter magical. The Ontario park is one of the handful that stay open during the winter months and they bring the seasonal fun in full force.

The spot is home to a magical skating trail through the woods and a hockey rink for those who want to square up in a game of shinny.

Grab your skates and get ready for an epic winter adventure.

Getting to MacGregor Point Provincial Park

The park is located along the shores of Lake Huron in Port Elgin, Ontario, about three and a half hours by car from Toronto/the GTA.

This road trip is worth the journey for the snowy views as you glide through the woods.

There is a day-use fee to visit the park, which starts at $18 per vehicle. The price includes access to:

  • Skating trail
  • Ice pad
  • Cross-country ski trails
  • Snowshoe trails

According to Ontario Parks, MacGregor Point’s busiest times in the winter are any weekend or holiday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so plan your visit accordingly.

To help guarantee access for day use, visitors can plan ahead and obtain a vehicle permit up to five days in advance.

The skating trail at MacGregor Point Provincial Park

The 400-metre oval trail is surrounded by trees and is lined with twinkling lights so if you’re skating after dark, it’ll feel even more magical.

The route is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. depending on if the conditions are right to skate.

If looping and gliding along isn’t your speed, there’s also an ice hockey rink to take advantage of.

Don’t forget to head to check out the snowshoe trails located in the Nipissing Campground.

Snowshoeing through the giant snow drifts along Old Shore Road Trail is “worthy of a bucket list”, says Ontario Parks while cross-country skiing enthusiasts will love The Deer Run Trail.

Spanning 11 km, the trail is fit for novice and experienced cross-country skiers as it winds through hardwood forest and wetland areas.

Whether it’s for date night or a family day out, we hope your snowy adventure is truly special.
