This summer, we’re catching rays and waves! And this boat-share startup in Toronto is making it easier for all to do just that. Skipperi, the world’s first boat-sharing app is officially launching in Toronto this May, and here’s what to know.

The Finland-based startup is bringing its boating subscription service to Toronto’s waterfront so boat lovers of all skill levels can enjoy a beautiful summer day out on the lake. The app allows you to reserve boats, check in/check out, and more.

Skipperi also has a training program for individuals that do not know how to drive a boat so they can be out enjoying this experience asap.

Entrepreneur boating enthusiasts, Anna-Leena Raij and Kristian Raij, first founded the service back in 2017 and it has since been backed by Yamaha Motors.

They offer a monthly subscription of $475, billed May through October, and gives access to all Skipperi fleets globally. The monthly fee covers all costs except for gas which is billed according to how much you use.

And once you’re ready to hit the water, you can access more than 40 new, fully equipped motor boats on Lake Ontario. The boats are fully equipped with perks like bluetooth speakers, seating areas, and swimming decks.

Skipperi members can access boats from seven harbours in the GTA:

  • Frenchman’s Bay Marina
  • Bluffers Park Marina
  • Queens Quay/Yonge
  • Queens Quay/Bathurst
  • Toronto Island Marina
  • Hamilton Harbour West Marina

  • Port Dalhousie Pier Marina

“Canada is the sixth country to get Skipperi boat sharing and our market preview last year proved to be the most successful globally to date – meaning Torontonians were eager to get on the water and really embraced the concept of boat sharing,” said Keven Dextradeur, Consulting Country Lead, Skipperi Canada.

At the moment, there are early bird Skipperi membership discounts available until June 1, 2023, starting at $475 a month. But considering the weather has been kind to us lately, you may find yourself out on the water starting May 1. You can check out the rest of their memberships here.
