This Alberta island has a magical boardwalk surrounded by a 300-year-old boreal forest

Fall is nearly here and the urge to lose ourselves in the gold and orange is strong. Luckily, you’ve got plenty of options in Wild Rose Country!

From busy mountain towns to inner city parks, there’s a whole lot to see, but if you’re looking to take in the fresh autumn air somewhere off the beaten path, we’d recommend visiting the boardwalk at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park in Alberta.

Located 3 hours from Edmonton, this enchanting island has a beach (which you can visit in the summer), picnic areas and of course, a 1.2 loop on the western side of the island.

Surrounded by a beautiful boreal forest with over 300. years of growth, this incredible spot is pristine and while it’s a bit of a drive, is totally worth a road snack or two.

If however, you can’t justify the trip, you can also stay the night, no matter the season!

With cozy little cabins or tipis and most home comforts, outdoor folk can really make the most of their visit if they book ahead.

In addition to walking the planks, those who really take their time can see over 230 species of birds, go fishing or canoeing – among other things.
