This “short & sweet” hike through the Alberta Rockies leads to a 50-metre high waterfall

Heading to the mountains? Silverton Falls in Banff National Park, Alberta is an enchanting trail a half hour away from one of Alberta’s favourite mountain towns.

What to expect

Described as “short and sweet” by Banff and Lake Louise Tourism, those looking for this particular viewpoint will first have to take a 2 km (round trip) hike through the Castle Junction.

Quieter than neighbouring pathways, the Silverton Falls trailhead is shared by the more popular Rockbound Lake Trail.

Be sure to look out for a sign (about 300 metres down the trail) to turn right toward the falls.

According to the tourism site, your hike will begin with a stroll through the forest, before reaching a couple of steep switchbacks.

It will, however, be worth it!

Once at the top, awaiting you will be a 50-metre, two-tier waterfall with very few visitors where you can take in the fresh air, enjoy a snack, and take photos.

No, it’s not the biggest in the province, but it is awfully pretty.

Enjoy, Alberta! There’s nothing better than the Alberta Rocky Mountains.
