This charming hamlet in Ontario has buildings dating back to the 1700s

Established in the 1790s, Unionville, Ontario is just a short drive from Toronto! This quaint hamlet is located within the larger city of Markham and is chock-full of history.

The area’s main street is lined with plenty to do and it’s the perfect day trip from the city, especially during autumn!

Getting there

If you’re driving from Toronto, getting to Unionville should only take you 45 minutes.

If you don’t have a car there is also a bus that leaves from the York Mills Bus Terminal to Unionville you can utilize.

Exploring Unionville, Ontario

Main Street is the place to be when visiting Unionville, Ontario.

The street is lined with stunning heritage buildings, pubs and boutiques, with some of the buildings dating back to when the hamlet was founded in the late 1700s.

Silver Tulip Boutique, Flavours of Unionville, Old Country Inn, Behind The Alley and CHA Gloriette are just a few of the stops to make while you stroll.

If you want nature views, then it’s time to hit the trails.

Toogood Pond is a picturesque 33-hectare park located in the heart of Unionville, a great place to walk around on a sunny day.

Bruce’s Creek is another option and includes a paved trail and boardwalk spanning 3.5 km long winding through a mix of forest, wetlands, and open fields.

The Varley Art Gallery of Markham is said to be a hidden gem, tucked within the hamlet and a perfect place to take the family.
