Tea on a summer day has never sounded so refreshing. Shangri-La Toronto has a new afternoon tea experience called “The Orchard” and it’s like a trip to Paris with every sip and bite.

According to the Shangri-La, the new menu lets you “explore a taste of summer, inspired by Ontario’s abundance of in-season fruits, with a French boutique-pastry twist,” featuring seasonal ingredients sourced from local purveyors.

It was developed by the classically French-trained Pastry Chef Calvin Watt, who is best known for his Parisian experience working for Pierre Gagnaire, who has been voted the world’s best pastry chef.

Among the menu highlights is a selection of hand-sculpted trompe-l’oeil chocolate fruits and you can choose three out of five as part of your afternoon tea experience.

The menu wouldn’t be complete without some savoury bites and there are many to try on “The Orchard” menu, including a callop chouwich, tomato croissandwich, Mandarin with duck foie gras, brandy, madeira and mandarin jelly, and delicious tea scones.

As for tea, you’ll get to choose from a collection of renowned premium teas and start things off with a glass of refreshing Chandon sparkling wine.

The afternoon tea menu is served in the sumptuous Shangri-La lobby lounge, described as “an urban living room,” which has live music daily from 2 p.m. to late.

“The Orchard” is available until August 28, which means you don’t have very long to give it a try. It’s the ultimate way to treat yourself and a friend or loved one during a summer outing in the city.
