There’s been a whole lot of new in the Seattle sports scene these past few years but the Seahawks are going back in time. Fans of the team have long been asking for throwback uniforms, and on Sunday, gamegoers at Lumen Field were the first to find out that the wait is almost over.

The Seahawks teased a return of 1990s-era throwback uniforms that will be used in 2023 as part of the NFL’s classic uniform program. The original jerseys alternated between white and blue coloring with the classic team logo. While similar to our team’s modern jerseys there are some key differences.

The current jersey colors are college navy, action green, and wolf gray. They were chosen because they represent the blue water; lush green landscape; grey of the mountains, according to Nike designer Todd Van Horne.

The 1990s jerseys featured brighter greens, blues, and white and a more organic design of the classic logo.

If you’re unfamiliar with team design history, the “Seahawk” is based on an indigenous “Kwakwaka’wakw transformation mask depicting an eagle” according to the Burke Museum.

The Seahawks haven’t released exact details on what to expect from the throwback jerseys, but their Instagram video above should give you some ideas.

What’s more, you can actually enter to win one of the throwback jerseys by heading over to the team’s website and entering your information before February 12, 2023.
