Vancouver’s giant soccer ball dome is complete and throwing an adults-only party next week

The start of the FIFA World Cup is upon us, Vancouver, and the city’s landmark soccer ball dome is now officially complete.

What started on May 6, 2026, as a couple of panels has turned into a giant, gleaming soccer ball, fit to welcome visitors from across the globe to our beautiful city. And what does the world’s largest sporting event need before its first match? A huge party at Science World, of course!

First, a moment for the dome’s incredible transformation.

According to a Science World representative, there are now 131 panels total, creating a 360-degree, 40-metre-diameter re-creation of the iconic adidas Trionda, the official match ball of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

To celebrate, Science World will be offering 20 per cent off general admission and will stay open later on game days.

As well, sports-themed live science shows held throughout the summer will reveal the fascinating science behind your favourite sports, including concepts like forces and health.

Science World After Dark: FIFA edition

Science World’s newest feature exhibition is the star of the show, Soccer & Technology from the FIFA Museum, which made its debut in Vancouver last month.

Presented by the Province of B.C., the exhibition details how soccer has evolved as a spectator sport across the world, with five distinct zones to explore: broadcasting and media, staging the game, intelligent data, innovation lab, and refereeing and fair play.

As you wander through the exhibition, you’ll see a live freestyle juggling performance, expert-led interactive stations, and a roster of spots to pick up an adults-only beverage to complete the experience.

The BodyWorks Gallery allows guests to run around the museum as if they’ve just scored the winning goal, immersing them in how science and tech work together on the field in addition to off.

How much are tickets?

Tickets to the After Dark event are $40 a pop, and include adults-only admission to all the exhibits from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

Want to take advantage of reduced admission on match days? Here’s when to visit Science World this summer for 20 per cent off:
