The Rose family mansion now has a new owner. The Schitt’s Creek mansion in Toronto has sold for millions of dollars less than the asking price.

The luxurious “European chateau” hit the market for $15 million back in February of 2021. The homeowner then upped the price to a whopping $21,888,000 in October 2021, before lowering it again to $17,888,000 million.

The listing agent, Khoren Mardoyan of Homelife/Vision Realty Inc., confirmed to Curiocity that the property sold last month for $15.2 million.

Fans of Schitt’s Creek will recognize the mansion from the pilot episode. It’s the place where the wealthy Rose family lived before they lost everything and had to move to the dumpy but lovable town they once bought as a joke.

Located in the exclusive St. Andrews-Windfields neighbourhood in North York, the 24,000 sq ft home has 12 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a “Sistine Chapel inspired” grand entranceway with a dome ceiling, and a banquet hall that can accommodate 150 guests.

And the luxury doesn’t stop there. It also has a 4 story elevator, billiards room, home theatre, as well as indoor and outdoor saltwater swimming pools. Dang, we see why the Roses were so upset about their move now.

With all of its amenities, this opulent home seems to be worth every penny. But, $2.68 million under-asking definitely has us scratching our heads, and we’ve asked Mardoyan to give us the backstory. We’ll update the article when we hear back.

There’s no question that $15 million is still an absurd amount of money, but compared to Canada’s most expensive mansion for sale, the new owner got a bargain on this TV-famous home.

This isn’t the only home for sale in Toronto right now with a fascinating backstory. The Canadian Tire founder’s stunning estate is on the market just down the road in the Bridle Path and was designed by the same architect who created Pearson Airport and Nathan Phillips Square.

This is easily one of Toronto’s most interesting homes, and its backstory makes us think that it deserves its own spinoff show.
