Feeling crummy about temperatures dropping? Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a beautiful drive through Southern Alberta and the Rocky Mountains to lift your spirits!
While Wild Rose Country is beautiful all year round, the fall season is particularly pretty and there are several routes with colourful trees and bright blue water.

Described as “one of the most scenic drives in Canada,” Highwood Pass is also the highest paved road in the country. With an elevation of 2,206 metres, or 7,273 feet above sea level, this beautiful route offers incredible views of the mountains and golden trees.
Love roadside attractions, towering trees, and history? The Crowsnest Highway is another gorgeous route from Alberta to BC. This winding road offers travellers mountain views, and easy access to the Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, as well as Frank’s Slide, and Lundbreck Falls.
From Lake Louise and Banff, Alberta’s Bow Valley Parkway is an incredibly beautiful drive.
Want to check it out? Travellers will see everything from emerald green lakes, towering trees, mountain peaks, and of course, elk, sheep, and deer.
The primary route between Waterton Lakes National Park and Glacier National Park in the U.S., the Chief Mountain Highway offers “offers exhilarating vistas of the Waterton and Blakiston valleys.”
