An Ontario park with historic falls opens for the season this weekend

Ah, yes. The days are getting warmer, the sun is shining a little brighter, and Ontario Parks are starting to open for the season. Sauble Falls Provincial Park opens for the season as of today, April 25, 2025, and it’s an excellent place to spend a day or a weekend now that the weather is taking a turn for the better.

The park is located in South Bruce Peninsula, about a three-hour drive from Toronto. Steps away from Sauble Falls and Lake Huron, the sights here are gorgeous.

You will need to be up for a little bit of an adventure if you’re planning on visiting, as the best part of this park is the canoeing.

The most popular canoe route is from Sauble Falls to County Road 8. Along the river, you’ll be treated to views of rolling sand dunes, farmland, and forested areas. The route runs about 10 km, which can take up to three and a half hours to complete.

Canoe rentals are available on site and can be found on the north side of the Sauble River near the parking lot.

If you’d rather stay on two feet, the Sauble Trail also winds around ancient sand dunes and makes for a perfect way to get some steps in, spanning 2.5 km.

Be sure to snap lots of photos, and if you’re visiting within the next week or so, keep your eyes peeled as spawning runs for Rainbow Trout and Chinook salmon happen in the river this time of year!
