Seattle’s famed Sam Hill Mansion is for sale once again with a $16 million price tag

Nearly eight months into the year and one of Seattle’s most iconic estates is still on the market. Capitol Hill’s Sam Hill Mansion is still available to buyers after last being on the market in 2017.

And while the vast majority of the home’s heritage charm is gone, it is well worth taking a look to see a glimpse inside this piece of Seattle history.

The 11,000-square-foot concrete home was built between 1909 and 1910 by railroad magnate Sam Hill. Beyond being one of Washington’s few Sam Hill buildings it was also the home of local preservationist Guendolen Plestcheeff who lived there from 1937 until her death in 1994. That being said the owners after her did not share the same interest in heritage details.

What exists today is a modern interior by Stuart Silk Architects and Garret Cord Werner. A mix of heritage moldings, stone floors, clean lines, and large windows unite the space. With 5 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, the home is balanced between living space and personal quarters. There are also amenities like an in-home gym and a rooftop terrace. It also happens to have a stunning sweeping view of Lake Union, the Olympic Mountains, Puget Sound, and St. Mark’s Cathedral.
