Toronto cherry blossom expert Steven Joniak, also known as Sakura Steve, operates the local cherry blossom guide, Sakura in High Park.

Joniak keeps the city in the know when it comes to the cherry blossom blooms and after his most recent visit to High Park he says “signs of buds opening their tips atop Cherry Hill, which was a clear indicator that Stage 3 had finally begun.”

It was up in the air if the recent bout of cold weather in Toronto would affect the progression of the cherry blossoms.

According to Joniak, “Even though the cooler temperatures persisted, with lots of rain and even times snow, the buds remained closed and protected from this short stint of winter. It also helped that temperatures were not on the extreme end so little damage was done.”

Joniak even offered an exact date range for when Torontonians can expect the cherry blossoms to be in full bloom.

“I think we should see the buds begin to open between April 18 and 24, with a full bloom a few days after (weather permitting, of course).”

Joniak’s prediction is pretty close to when we saw the cherry blossoms bloom last year, April 20th-28th.

In 2022 Toronto saw blooms a little later, May 5th-12th.

Get excited and get ready to enjoy the stunning sights of the cherry blossoms, Toronto!
