The sun is shining, pumpkin spice is back and the leaves have begun to turn yellow – but how will you enjoy the ‘blink and you might miss it’ season?

Alberta comes to life in the fall, but there’s one place we’d recommend getting some fresh air above all others and that’s the Rocky Mountains! Here the larch trees are bright and the air is crisp – especially along Saddleback trail.

Located in Lake Louise, this magical destination is great for those who are looking for a quiet hike and a great workout.

According to Parks Canada, who named it among their favourite “golden” day hikes, the trip is about 3.7 kilometres one way (7.4 km total with 595 m elevation gain) and will take about 3 to 4 hours to complete, depending on your speed.

To get to the trailhead, head to the boathouse side of the water – then follow it upwards.

Rising steadily above Lake Louise, you’ll see birds, Mount Temple and Paradise Valley, which is well known for its fall views, but hurry!

As we mentioned, sweater season comes and goes pretty quickly in Alberta and you won’t want to miss it.

The best time to go? Mid to late September, when temperatures are still high and the leaves have yet to fall.

Pack smart, take pictures and enjoy, adventure seekers!

You’re in for a treat!
