Finding a hike with panoramic views in our concrete jungle can be a challenge, but the Vista Trail at Rouge National Urban Park offers just that—a stunning, lesser-known escape right here in Toronto.
You’ll find Rouge National Urban Park on the east end of Toronto.
It’s one of the largest urban parks in North America, home to forests, creeks, farms, marshland, and trails. It offers a lovely outdoor experience without requiring a trip too far out of the city.
The park has 14 designated trails, each with its own, one-of-a-kind adventure.
But since we’re here for fall views, we think the Vista Trail is just the hike you need.
It’s a 1.5 km trail that will take you to a two-level viewing platform. On a clear day, these views cannot be beaten, but they are even more special in the fall as the leaves change colour.
According to Parks Canada, the Vista Trail’s two-level viewing platform is actually one of the best places to view Toronto’s stunning fall foliage and spectacular valley views.
The platform is located near the Zoo Road Day Use Area and provides spectacular views of the Little Rouge Creek and Rouge River valleys throughout the year.
On the north end, you can also spot Beare Hill. It was once a landfill but is now one of the highest points of land in the city.
Once you’ve soaked up all the vistas from the observation tower, you can set off on the gorgeous Vista Trail and the surrounding trail networks.
The tree diversity and microclimates are a main feature along the trail’s forest ridge, says Parks Canada.
“Here, maple and oak trees dot the warm southern slopes, while shady hemlock groves cover the cool northern aspects.”
It’s truly a sight to be seen.
Visitors can park at Zoo Road Day Use Area from 7:30 AM to 9 PM daily. Looks like we got your weekend plans set!
Where: North trailhead at Zoo Road, south trailhead at 55 Twyn Rivers Drive
