While some Ontario parks are closing for the year, others are just entering their peak! Frontenac Provincial Park is open year-round and comes alive as we enter into the chillier months. Autumn is a perfect time of year to visit as the leaves begin to change and guests are invited to take in the sights along the 100 km of hiking trails.
Feeling adventurous? Let’s start planning your trip!
Frontenac Provincial Park is situated along the southern edge of the Canadian Shield, about two hours southwest of Ottawa by car and halfway between Toronto and Montreal.
The park is open year-round and if you’re spending the day you’ll need to pay a fee of $12.25 per vehicle.
The park is known for boasting 100 km of trails and this time of year the foliage changes to vibrant shades of yellow, red and orange.
According to Ontario Parks, “Two trails that are sure to provide a beautiful fall colour experience are Doe Lake Loop (3 km) and Dedication Trail (2.4 km one way)”.
Doe Lake Loop is a hike along the shores of South Otter Lake and Doe Lake leading to a stunning lookout.
Dedication Trail is a linear trail that winds through hardwood forests and along a selection of ponds.
If you can’t make it this autumn, winter is just as fun at Frontenac Provincial Park!
Snowshoeing, ice fishing and cross-country skiing are all popular activities at the park once the snow arrives.
Winter camping may sound a little intimidating but Frontenac organizes introductory winter camping workshops, provided by the Friends of Frontenac! A perfect way to try your hand at a new adventure.
Adventure awaits!
