You might think this next Ontario trail came straight out of Willy Wonka’s world based on its name, but the only thing sweet about it is the view. The Rock Candy Mountain Trail is one adventure you must embark on this fall season. With a stunning lookout over three lakes, what isn’t there to love?
Ready for the drive? If you’re coming from the Toronto area, it’ll take you just over six hours to get to the town of Thessalon, which is the closest stop before the trail.
According to Destination Northern Ontario, the Rock Candy Mountain Trail is about 35 km north of Thessalon, located along Highway 129.
You’ll find the trailhead down the first road past Tunnel Lake Trading Post as you head north. There’s space for parking near the area, too!
Once you’ve got your proper footwear on and you’re bundled up, head onto the trail. It’s about 1.5 km long and ends at a spectacular lookout. It’s uphill, so get ready for the ultimate leg workout.
Although you won’t find a treat at the end of the trail, you will get rewarded with some sweet views, especially with the fall colours.
Enjoy panoramic views over Cumming Lake, Axe Lake, and Tunnel Lake.
Snap those pictures and embrace the season.
So if you’re looking to squeeze in one more fall adventure before the season’s over, make it this one. Rocky Candy Mountain Trail might not have any actual candy, but the views are definitely a treat worth the trek.
