This hike in Ontario takes you to a waterfall & cliffside views

Fall is the best time of year for a hike, thanks to the spectacular colours and crisp air to keep you cool. Said to be the “best hiking trail for an autumn view” in all of Ontario, Robertson Cliffs is a must-visit this season.

The panoramic views from these 150-metre-high cliffs are absolutely breathtaking, stretching across the Bellevue Valley, with the Goulais River winding its way toward Lake Superior.

The 5-km loop is a marked trail called Ila’s Trail, named after the intrepid hiker Iila Aho, who lovingly developed this trail herself.

You can also skip the trail and ascend straight to the top of the cliffs, says Northern Ontario Travel.

However, if you do the full trail, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of Algoma’s beautiful Boreal Forest, several cliffside lookouts, and even a charming waterfall.

Robertson Cliffs boasts not one, not two, but three main lookout points, each offering a unique perspective of the stunning landscape.

Plus, there are several smaller lookouts to explore along the way, making it a photographer’s dream.

The hike is rated as ‘moderate’ difficulty due to some rock scrambling, stream crossings, and the occasional tree obstacle.

But don’t let that deter you – it’s all part of the adventure!

The journey to the top can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your chosen trail.

Be sure to factor in the same amount of time for the return trip, so set aside at least 2 hours for this memorable excursion.

Once you get to the top, you’ll be rewarded with some of Ontario’s finest views of autumn colours.

You’ll be filled with gratitude as you gaze out at the stunning landscape of the province you call home.
