These stunning Ontario parks have extended their camping seasons into fall

There’s plenty of fall hiking to do in our province, but have you ever tried fall camping in Ontario?

The crisp sunny weather, epic colours, and minimal crowds make this an incredible time of year to sleep under the stars, and several provincial parks have extended their camping season into the fall this year.

According to Ontario Parks, these destinations are offering extended campsite bookings this season so you can immerse yourself in nature as the leaves change.

Fairbank Provincial Park

This park lies on the very edge of the Sudbury Basin, an ancient meteorite impact crater formed 1.8 billion years ago, according to Ontario Parks.

With its crystal-clear waters and picturesque surroundings of rolling forested hills, Fairbank Lake is one of the park’s main attractions.

Windy Lake Provincial Park

A family-favourite camping destination, Windy Lake has so much to explore this time of year.

On the list of must-see destinations in this park is Onaping Falls, a 55-metre cascading waterfall that captured the heart of famous painter A.Y. Jackson.

Neys Provincial Park

Surfing, lush islands, and white-sand beaches are not things you’d typically associate with Ontario, but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Neys Provincial Park!

This park is famous for its scenic beauty — so famous, in fact, that it has been the subject of several Group of Seven paintings.

A hiking trail that takes you to a scenic lookout point of the nearby Pic Island was immortalized by Lawren Harris in his iconic 1924 painting.

Silver Lake Provincial Park

This park boasts a canopy of mature mixed hardwoods, and it’s nestled on the picturesque clear waters of Silver Lake off Highway 7.

It has two sandy beaches and a boat launch, plus canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard rentals you can take advantage of to fully enjoy the beauty of this park.

Lake Superior Provincial Park: Rabbit Blanket Campground

There’s no question that Lake Superior Provincial Park is the perfect place to visit (and camp!) in the fall.

From dramatic cliffs and pristine beaches to winding river valleys and cascading waterfalls, every area reveals something new.

Open until October 29th, this campground is situated on an inland lake with a small beach area, says Ontario Parks.

Killbear Provincial Park

With a horseshoe-shaped beach and a lookout point offering scenic vistas of Georgian Bay, this park is a must-visit.

Though this is definitely a day-trip hot spot, Destination Ontario recommends making it a longer trip and camping for a few days.

Killbear has over 12 km of rugged shoreline and three islands to explore, and the scenery is especially lovely in the fall.
