If Hallmark movies have taught us anything, it’s that second to lighting a small town Christmas tree – fall festivals are the most magical events of the year. This autumn, check out The Great White North Pumpkin Fair, a charming celebration straight out of a feel-good holiday film.
Held in Smoky Lake, which is known as the pumpkin capital of Alberta, this unique festival is highly anticipated and attended by gourd enthusiasts from all over the province.

This, of course, is not just because there’s a petting zoo and mini midway – but because they actually hold a huge pumpkin weigh-off year after year.
With the support of Travel Alberta, the GWNPF competition has seen some of the biggest gourds in the country – many of which weigh well over 1,000 lbs.
In addition, guests can also enjoy live entertainment, a beer garden, pancake breakfast, a farmers market and a watch as giant squash are dropped from a crane.
