This adorable spot is known as Ontario’s favourite lakeside heritage town

Ontario’s favourite lakeside heritage town is just one hour away from Toronto! Port Perry, known for its historic charm, is a great spot for a day trip away from city life. From outdoor skating to an adorable downtown strip to shop along, you’ll be packin’ up the car to visit in no time.

First things first, make sure you bring your skates with you. Located in the Joe Fowler ball diamond there’s a beautiful outdoor skating rink that was just added to the town last winter.

The rink is open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (weather permitting) and is completely free to use. If you head over on the weekends, there is also an artisan market to explore next to the rink with local goods, food and drinks. This spot sits right along the shore of Lake Scugog, making for some whimsical views as you glide along.

If all that skating works up an appetite, downtown is just steps away. Old Flame Brewery is a local favourite, nestled in a historical building that was originally built in 1874, and began as the Ontario Carriage Works. The brewery has rotating taps to enjoy and even has live music on select evenings.

Just down the road is another crowd-pleaser, Marwan’s Global Bistro. This menu features dishes from all over the world like tacos, Thai green curry, butter chicken and lobster mac and cheese.

Craving a little time outdoors? Head back to the waterfront and take a stroll along The Port Perry Waterfront Trail System. This scenic trail system spans 5 km, starting at Highway 7A and continuing to Scugog Line 8 with views of the lake along the way.

While you’re out and about, get some shopping in downtown Port Perry. Kelly’s on Queen, POE Design, Modella Ladieswear, The Port Cheese Co., and Low’s Furniture are just a few stops you can make.

Port Perry is awaiting your arrival, Ontario!
