This coastal BC park is known for its second-growth forest & meandering trails

Sandy beaches, meandering forested trails, and rushing creeks. That’s what you’ll find at the scenic Porpoise Bay Provincial Park in British Columbia, and you’ll definitely want to add it to your summer bucket list.

Situated on the Sunshine Coast, the park is separated from the Strait of Georgia by the isthmus at Sechelt, consisting of rolling hills and long stretches of beautiful beaches.

It’s a popular basecamp destination for paddlers exploring the Sechelt Inlet, as well as for families looking to set up for a day of fun in the sun.

Come fall, the park transforms with colourful fall foliage, with a popular estuary and spawning salmon in late October.

Campers have over 150 reservable front-country sites to choose from, including 84 vehicle-accessible campsites. Cyclists and backpackers also have the option of staying at an exclusive first-come-first-served camping area for those without a vehicle.

This is an open area with no designated campsites, but room for approximately 10 small tents.

Note that the campsites share a communal fire pit and picnic tables, as well as a shower building with flush toilets nearby.

And for the kids, there’s an adventure playground to check out in between dips in the sun-warmed waters.

Note that the Angus Creek trail from the beach up to the amphitheatre is temporarily closed due to recent flooding, according to BC Parks.
