This Ontario park has rolling dunes and trails that wind through rare forests

It’s one of the most popular Ontario parks for good reason. Pinery Provincial Park is quite the gem, boasting rolling dunes, rare forests, and winding trails, all situated along the beautiful shores of Lake Huron. Because of the area’s mild weather and the park’s year-round availability, this is a destination you can enjoy any time of year.

Getting to Pinery Provincial Park

The drive from Toronto/The GTA to Pinery Provincial Park will take anywhere from three to three and a half hours.

The park is located in the heart of the beloved town of Grand Bend on the shores of Lake Huron.

Things to do

The park is well known for a couple of reasons, but the main attraction is the rolling dunes.

The best spot to see the dunes is from the Lookout Trail. This trail leads to a lookout platform at the top of the dunes for a perfect view.

The Wilderness Trail spans three kilometres and is the longest trail in the park. Along the way, visitors can enjoy some of the park’s oldest forest growth as it wanders through a Red Pine and mixed Oak-Pine forest to a staircase leading to the shore of Lake Huron.

If you’re staying at Pinery Provincial Park all day, you’re in for a treat when the sun goes down.

According to Ontario Parks, the sunsets at the Pinery are “ranked by National Geographic as among the “Top 10 Best in the World.”

Pull up a blanket or chair along the beach at the park and take in the sights as you end your day.
