PetSmart is having a massive pet adoption week across Canada next week

There’s a reason why the spring season brings an air of change. It’s when we remove all the winter clutter we’ve piled up these last few months and give our homes a do-over. With a refreshed space and a sense of renewal, it’s also the perfect time to open your home to a pet in need of one. PetSmart Charities of Canada’s National Adoption Week takes place next week, and if you’ve been looking to add a furry companion to your life, this is a great place to start.

From March 23 to 29, PetSmart stores across Canada will host dogs, cats, rabbits, and even small animals available for adoption. Store staff and volunteers will be on hand to help prospective pet parents find their four-legged friends.

“At PetSmart Charities of Canada, we’ve spent more than 25 years championing the idea that every pet deserves a loving home and a place in a family,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities of Canada, in a press release.

“National Adoption Week is a special moment to help make those connections happen by bringing people and pets together, easing the burden on overcrowded shelters, and supporting their vital work across the country. We encourage you to visit your local PetSmart and discover the joy of pet adoption.”

Coinciding with the nationwide campaign, Toronto Animal Services (TAS) will also waive adoption fees for all large dogs (over 50 pounds or puppies expected to reach that size), from March 23 to April 23, 2026.

Want to take part in a wonderful cause?

In addition to getting to know the animals, you’ll also have the chance to learn from the on-site teams about how to prepare and what to expect with the new family addition.

If you’ve been playing with the idea of adopting, let this be your sign.
