A special holiday train will pass through this Ontario town known for its winter charm

If you’re looking for an area to visit this holiday season, Ontario is filled with towns that come alive as the air cools down. Perth, Ontario is a spot that’s known for its winter charm, hosting a variety of holiday festivities including a visit from a festive holiday train.

Down for the road trip? Here’s what to know.

Getting there

Perth is nestled along the Tay River in Eastern Ontario.

If you’re driving from Toronto, getting to this adorable town will take you around three and a half hours. From Ottawa, the drive is around one hour.

Winter charm

While some towns seem to close down and close off for the winter, Perth does the exact opposite.

Visitors can take part in a variety of seasonal festivities including a Kris Kringle Craft Fair, Christmas Market, Holiday Baking and Knitting Sale, Wreath Workshop, Santa Meet & Greet, and the beloved CPKC Christmas Train.

This year, the CPKC Christmas Train will stop in Perth on November 28th, 2024 starting at 7:40 PM. The train will be decorated with stunning lights and the evening will also include performances from Tyler Shaw and Shawnee Kish.

If you’re planning a visit to see the Christmas Train, the town of Perth notes that the display can only be seen from the west side of the tracks.

This is a free event, the perfect place to bring your family ahead of the holidays!

Once it’s cold enough, head over to Stewart Park for a skate on the beautiful outdoor rink, go snowshoeing at Perth Wildlife Reserve or venture on a cross-country ski at Murphy’s Point.

Perth, Ontario is ready to welcome you this festive season!
