If you’re looking for a beautiful fall road trip destination that’s in closer proximity to Vancouver, you can’t do much better than Penticton. One of two cities in the world to be situated between two lakes, Penticton is undoubtedly a popular summertime destination, as it’s home to what might be the laziest river in Canada. But if you’re looking for a colourful fall adventure, you won’t be any less impressed here.
The sandy Okanagan and Skaha beaches stretch nearly 15 acres, according to Visit Penticton, and offer plenty of opportunities for water activities during the warmer months. As of now, “Canada’s Craft Beer Capital” has tons of options by way of tasting rooms, and the good news is that many are open year-round!
Visit Penticton counts over 80 wineries in the area, with eight craft breweries, two cideries, and three distilleries within easy walking or biking distance of the downtown core. With Penticton Beer Week coming up (October 13th to 22nd), now is prime time to dive into the town’s buzzing craft beer scene, which includes some of the oldest and the newest breweries in the province.

In terms of other sips, visitors can enjoy year-round tastings at the likes of Poplar Grove Winery, Roche Wines, Three Sisters Winery, and Play Estate Winery – to name a few.
As for fun outdoor activities, cyclists and hikers can journey across the famed Kettle Valley Trail, a former rail trail stretching 660 km from Hope to Castlegar. And if you’re passing through the Kelowna area, you can stop at the beautiful Myra-Bellevue Park, which gives visitors a front-row seat to the changing fall colours and the chance to see a couple of historic bridges in the process.
Since the name Penticton translates to “a place where people have always been all year long” in Interior Salish nsyilxcən, we feel that a fall or winter trip to the town for some tastings is definitely warranted.
So there you have it, Vancouver! Buckle in for a fantastic getaway.
