Pebble Beach is known as one of Marathon’s most popular attractions.
The rocky shores are perfect for exploring. Visitors can search for agates, quartz, and other semi-precious stones that are hidden among the pebbles.
According to the town website, the beach came to be from pounding waves and shifting ice polish helping shape and form the colourful rocks that line the beach for over two kilometres.
“Each spring the lake modifies the display by pushing the rocks up into terraces or spreading them in an even layer, before rearranging the driftwood seating.”
While walking the shoreline offers some amazing views, you’ll need to come dressed properly. Proper footwear is a must as walking along the pebbles can hurt if your feet aren’t protected.
Once you’ve explored Pebble Beach, check out another natural wonder in Marathon that isn’t too far away!
Mink Creek Falls, a 35-meter-high waterfall that cascades into a deep gorge is just off Highway 17.
The falls are a short walk from the parking lot, with a viewing platform available to get the best seat in the house to take in the sights.
If you’re not from northern Ontario, getting to Marathon is a bit of a hike as it’s found near Thunder Bay but we promise it’s worth the trip!
