Iconic Japanese bakery known for cheese tarts is opening in Markham

The iconic and loved Pablo Cheese Tart is closing its Dundas Street location in Toronto this weekend, but it’s not all bad news. The Japanese bakery, which is known for its treats, is relocating and opening in Markham.

According to the bakery, their last day of operation is this weekend, on January 22.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for the ongoing support in the community,” said the bakery on its website earlier this month. “We hope to be able to continue serving you, and your friends and families in some way. We are working our best to develop a system to be able to continue to serve our downtown Toronto community when we move into the new store.”

If you want to pop by their downtown location this week, it’s at 114 Dundas Street West.

Once they close, the new store won’t be open right away.

Expect its opening near the end of March or into early April. It will be located at 5990-16th avenue, Unit 216, in Markham.

Born in the northern Japanese city of Osaka, Pablo Cheese Tart has become a must-try spot not only at home, but in countries like Vietnam, Taiwan, and of course, right here in Canada. Their claim to fame? The Original Cheese Tart, which uses a crispy shell, a fluffy cheese-based filling, and a thin layer of apricot jam on top.
