What’s open & closed in Edmonton on Thanksgiving Monday this year

The Thanksgiving long weekend is almost here! We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for all the turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin-flavoured treats. In case you have any errands to run between Friendsgiving events and family dinners, here’s everything that’s open and closed in Edmonton on Thanksgiving Monday.

Open

Movie Theatres

If you were hoping to catch a spooky movie on your day off – you’re in luck! Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex locations across the city will all be open so pop some corn and settle in!

The Landfill

If you need to get rid of something that really can’t wait, the Landfill will be open this year on Monday. It says here that they’re open from 8 AM to 5 PM on holidays.

Malls

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, KingswaySouthgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre Mall will be open.

Edmonton Valley Zoo

Probably the cutest way to spend your Thanksgiving – or kill some time before dinner! You can visit the Zoo this Thanksgiving Monday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road

Grocery and liquor stores

Did your mom ask you to bring extra cranberry sauce or a bottle of wine for the table? No problem, while we recommend checking your local store’s hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Monday.

Telus World of Science

Give yourself some dinner conversation starters. The Telus World of Science will be open on Thanksgiving, so treat yourself to some brain food before the main event.

Where: 11211 142 St NW, Edmonton

Museums

In a similar vein, rack up some inspiration at the Royal Alberta Museum and the Alberta Aviation Museum, both of which will be open on Thanksgiving Monday.

U of A Botanic Garden

Why not take a little weekend road trip? Soak up the last of the warm weather as you wander acres of flowers and grass.

Where: 51227 AB-60, Parkland County

Closed

City-owned Recreation Facilities and Leisure Centres

If you want to practice your backstroke or lift some weights on Monday, double-check the hours as many of Edmonton’s Recreational centres will be closed for the holiday.

The following, however, will remain open with reduced hours:

Post Offices

Whether it’s a package you need to return or a postcard to a distant relative – you’ll have to wait a day until you can mail it. Canada Post will be closed on national, provincial and territorial holidays.

Costco

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Monday, Costco will be closed this Monday, so make sure you stock up early!

Government Offices

From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday.

We hope you eat until you’re stuffed and have a great holiday weekend!
